While it's never fun saying goodbye to friends, keeping in touch is one of the many benefits - as everybody knows - of the web. It's fun to see people who are begining a new adventure, as Dean Calbreath and Sara Thailing (and their two kids) are beginnig soon. We said are farewells on a rainy Saturday evening and expect Sara to start a blog ("a what?") she can call her own as they head out for a year in the orient. I'm trusting Dean to talk her into it. As a writer I believe she would really enjoy it.

Just do it!

Heading out tomorrow to the CTIA event in New Orleans. This year, as last, Wi-Fi is on the top of the agenda. CNET has a good overall description of events, which feature a "who's who" of wireless.

Well, they did it. With the help of InCode Telecom, Bell Canada launched their payphone hotspot serviceearlier this year. Turns out the already had dsl going to many payphones, so why not just leverage (exploit) the advantage by tossing an access point on it too? At this point it's free, but they will no doubt begin charging something later this year. Sort of begs the question - who uses payphones anymore anyway? Airports have been losing money on payphone revenue for years as cellular services have grown (even in London). I wonder if this will pose a problem in the upcoming sequel to the Matrix? Harder to phone your way back...

well well well...what's this "war" supposed to do for us? security? lower gas prices?? I don't get it. My God. $2.35/gallon for 91 octane!! talk about a price increase. Why didn't I purchase stock in Texaco instead of Cisco? talk about profit. But who can complain here in Del Mar? We had yet another fantastic day today. Everybody was at the car wash. Owning a 911 turns no heads in this town. And as the day wore down it was fun to drive with the top down....before evening...when I got my ass kicked in halo by my brother. He killed me and my 2 older kids 68 times, and never died once himself. I love this game, but geez, that was no fun. Like folks that say "I don't worry about my golf score...I play for fun". Well, it's no fun to suck. It's no fun to look for your ball, etc. and it's no fun to get killed dozens of times. "you need to shoot me in the head". Yea. Ok. Maybe next year, maybe when Halo II comes out..maybe..maybe..Maybe it's not a game for 42 year olds like me.

Following the Lance Armstrong separation? Shocked but not surprised. Sounds more like his wife's idea - since he goes to Europe to train every spring anyway. this year she's staying in Texas. Blame is not the point. Some fan sites also have lots of folks (including yours truly) commenting on it.
Well, that audio blog sure was fun. Now, if it just could to TTS (text to speech) with some degree of accuracy, the storage would not be so prohibitvely large. I think the best use of the audio blog, which I'll try later today, is multimedia: adding a snip of audio with a photo - also from your cell phone - would be great. Somebody must be doing that already, come to think of it. On the other hand, maybe there are moments in life best left unpreserved. I'll never forget the president of KDDI giving a speech at the BREW event last year stating matter-of-factly "I don't want a position-location capable picture phone all the time...like when I'm out with my work friends at a bar late at night". ahhem..yea..right..we all get it. Paradoxically, that's most likely far more entertaining than...

A photo of a techno-company conference room, shown at left, is why WiFi (and yes, bluetooth) needs to grow faster. Who needs all those cables?? and my God, what a pain to schlep all the cables wherever you go? Briefcases were simply not designed to carry those cables. The little tabs on the RJ-45 (was RJ-11) cables keep getting snapped off.

By number four, you let them juggle knives...that's how it goes, right? Times winged chariot has made me forget so many little things - you too? When feeling out of sight for the ends of being and ideal grace, I cherish these small moments of the littlest one playing hide 'n seek with teddy.
