Ahhh....after living in Germany for years, observing the stringent rules regarding obtaining a license there, enjoying driving amongst people who actually focused on driving and following common sense, and then returning to the U.S., I've been a frustrated driver for the past ten years. It's not that there are not mostly decent drivers here, it's that there are so many bad drivers. Whether it's ineptitude or just plain absent-mindedness, these people seem to be everywhere clogging the road - or worse - imposing their "one man auto-vigilantism" on the rest of us. Playing stupid games instead of cooperating. Taking offense by anybody passing them...so long as they are "doing the speed limit" Oh well. In this article from the National Motorists Association, Eric Peters explains why speed limits do not equate to safety.

well well well...Could EV-DO be "the one"? read this and see what I've noticed in my home in San Diego: the WWAN provides me with more consistent service than my own hotspot (which sucks in the kitchen, is decent in the family room, and great upstair where I put the access point and use it the most)...

Well, even with several laptops in my office to choose from (Dell 2 GHz, 15" G4 powerbook, Compaq 1.4 GHz, IBM...) I was still unhappy. I wanted something REALLY small - that would be easy to carry around, had long battery life and would both burn a CD and play a DVD...and really important..is viewable while outdoors. That last requirement removes most laptops. Oh, I've already got a Toshiba e310 PDA - sorry - not good enough. Well, I'm hoping I found itThe Sony VAIO TR2A:

- 10.6" TFT screen (my favorite feature - works outdoors)
- Centrino 1 GHz processor/855 processor/WiFi capable
- 40 G hard drive/512 sdram
- CD -RW/DVD drive

and a bunch of Sony extras like a built-in web cam, memory stick capabilities, etc.

I'm really stressing my wifi network at home now. My TiVo had trouble (took a while) pulling up family photos while 5 people were downloading files and somebody was using xbox live. Still, can't complain...I switched this laptop to Verizon's EV-DO service in San Diego and am getting 350 kbps around the house on it.
